DFC. Howard Hawkins
DFC. Hawkins started with the Lee County Sheriff’s office in August of 2006 as a Fleet Mechanic. In 2008 he was selected to attend the 120th Corrections academy at the Southwest Florida Public service academy. After working in Corrections for six years, he showed his interest in the Cell Dog Program while working on the night shift. He started learning how to train dogs and attending the Southwest Florida public service academy to become a Field Training Officer. In 2015 he was selected to go to day shift to become one of the Cell Dog Program Coordinators. In 2017 he became a canine good citizen evaluator, and in 2018 He was selected to attend the Animal Behavior College Dog Trainer program, where he obtained his Dog Trainer certificate. In 2021 he received his Animal Behavior College Dog Trainer Mentor Certificate.
During his time with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, he has received many accolades, including:
· 2011 Good Conduct Bar awarded by Sheriff Mike Scott;
· 2015 Certificate of Appreciation for involvement with the Cell Dog Program awarded by Sheriff Mike Scott;
· 2016 Commendation for participation with the Cell Dog Program awarded by Sheriff Mike
Scott;
· 2017 Certificate of Appreciation for involvement with the Cell Dog Program awarded by
Sheriff Mike Scott;
· 2019 Exceptional Service Bar for participation with the Cell Dog Program Awarded by
Sheriff Carmine Marceno;
· 2019 Exceptional Service Bar (2) for involvement with the Cell Dog Program awarded by
Sheriff Carmine Marceno;
· 2020 Life Saving Bar for providing aid to a person in need resulting in the saving of their
life awarded by Sheriff Carmine Marceno;
· 2021 15 years of service ribbon awarded by Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
